about

We as feeling and thinking beings were wrong. We do not live for the night, but the night lives for us. In the metaphorical sense of the word, night stands for the celebration of transience and decline. And this night has a name: Zweite Jugend.

Marcel (drums) and Eli (voice, production) are the two faces behind the band's minimalist music. "All tones are produced emotionally," according to the band. What do they mean by that? There is no reason not to create all instruments analog. And that is the irrefutable rule: ARP Odyssey, SH-101 and MS20 are the only sound generators that Zweite Jugend use in their songs, along with acoustic drums, a bit of percussion and of course the voices. And you can hear that too. The spirit of the late seventies resonates omnipresent, be it in the recordings or at the concerts. Of course, the works are modern and mixed with the zeitgeist of today.

Likewise, the well thought-out texts always appear fresh and up-to-date. "The textual content disguised as feelings are at the center of the work," says Eli. He paints pictures and emotions with his words, in many cases penetrating deep into the psyche of the audience, addressing love, life, the desire for something, but also astrophysics, science and things that appear sober. The human tendency to destroy the good is a common thread, sometimes more and sometimes less present. In fact, Zweite Jugend always write the lyrics first and then compose the instruments to match the lines. Marcel skillfully drums to the analogue sequences and directs the rhythm.

After the albums “Liebe ist Luxus” (2016) and “Elektronische Körpermusik” (2019), Zweite Jugend is now entering the final phase of an album trilogy: “Der Wille zur Nacht” is just around the corner. It is precisely this human urge to destroy everything that appears equal or even threatening to it. Be it a planet, a parallel culture or another species. But man keeps forgetting that he is his own enemy. This is true human nature, or in the reverse Nietzsche concept, the will to the night. That would mean consistently: "Life support through self-destruction".

It is said that all that glitters is not gold. Anyone who has already experienced Zweite Jugend live knows that both can apply. It should be clear that in addition to all the doomsday scenarios there is enough space for party hits and loud celebrations. Even bad things can be celebrated loudly, even if it's just an act of irony. So let's dive into the night and see what it entails.
